For decades, wall hanging systems - for displaying art - have been widely available to Europeans.
They have reached mass market appeal being available even within mass market retail retailers. Having had a much later start in North America, wall hanging systems have received considerable attention within key markets such as galleries, museums, universities and libraries. As the result of some clever design improvements these specialty hardware are now gaining acceptance for American home use.
A typical system consists of a three main components. The first is a rail that is horizontally attached to a wall or ceiling. The second is a series of rods or
cables that suspend from the rail. Lastly, wall hanging systems incorporate hooks, which allows art, and other objects, to suspend from the
rods or cables.
In another form, such systems may deploy piers, or stand-offs, in place of the rails. Depending on how they are installed, a well designed wall hanging system may appear either modern or traditional in style or even "disappear" in an interior space.
